"Old Town"
Built by : Harry Henry & Bud Dodson
Northpointe Builders

The "Old Town" designed by Carson Looney Architects of Memphis was designed as part of Southern Living Magazine's 2001 Idea House Collection. The original Idea House was located near Collierville, TN. Town Square. It is reminiscent of houses built during the 1930's and 40's when folks "Walked to Town."

The "Old Town" features a front sitting porch wrapped around a formal dining room. The porch is typical of the ones where families gathered on porch swings under ceiling fans on Sunday afternoons.

The builder's chose handmade brick from a renovated foundry in Mississippi; together with rough-hewn cedar shakes to further suggest an older home. Each lot in the Highlands features both street and alley entrances.

The garage located on the alley at the rear of the house is enclosed with double doors. Adjacent to the garage, a gate opens to the backside of the house.

The master suite and living room area is located downstairs with a large triple window overlooking the park and tree preserve area across the street.

A large fireplace is the focal point of the living room, with built-in bookcases, and a box beamed ceiling. Kitchen cabinets were designed to appear like antique furniture and grouped using black and white. Contrasting is the sleekness of stainless steel appliances and accents, with the large granite surface of the kitchen island.

The "Old Town" has two additional bedrooms and baths upstairs with a large bonus room. Another multi-purpose room, situated in an upstairs gable, provides extra space for exercise equipment and studio space for the owner's artwork.
